Installing PVC Windows

How to do it

We understand that installing a window can seem like a daunting task. That's why we're here to guide you through the process and provide you with the information you need.

  • Getting the right tools - Caulk (caulk gun), screwdriver, hammer, level, and shims.
  • Remove the old window by removing any trim and caulk and taking the frame out.
  • Check any damages on the opening, removing any debris and repairing damage.
  • Use level and shims to ensure the new frame is level and centered and plumb and square with the opening.
  • Apply caulk to the exterior perimeter, then screw the window into place when level and square and in place.
  • Re-apple the trim or moulding, inspecting for any gaps or leaks and fixing any that are found.

Just had our front door fitted by GM Windows and it looks so good I just had to attach the photographs. George kept in touch with us from start to finish and even sourced the glass door panel that we really wanted. The lads Matt and Leo were professional, approachable and did a fabulous job fitting the door. We had a minor issue with the side panel glass which was rectified immediately. All for a great price. We used GM windows for a new composite front and back door, and 7 new windows with frames. George came within the week of contact to conduct a survey and was very knowledgeable about the products on the market, giving the pros and any cons of each product but did not push any sales whatsoever. He was clearly really passionate about his business which came across when meeting him, and was one of the deciding factors for me. He then provided a very reasonable quote which was over £1000 cheaper than a like for like quote I received. The quote was very comprehensive and included a breakdown of the cost, including a full description and visuals of each product ordered. The doors both came with one of the best locks on the market which was a bonus. Kelly was fantastic in facilitating some alterations to the quote.Matt and his apprentice Leo came to fit the windows and were great. They were on time each day and were straight into the job. Matt is a very experienced fitter and took a great deal of pride in his work, ensuring the highest quality fit. I couldn't be happier with the service provided and couldn't recommend these guys enough.

Great communication from initial enquiry for a new front door to installation. The fitter was a professional, polite, friendly chap who left everything tidy. Very pleased. Fitters were a great set of lads who worked their socks off and completed an excellent job, fitting 2 bay windows, 2 smaller windows and replacing 34 glass panels and 2 doors in the Conservatory. They clearly taking pride in their work.Very professional from the first meeting, providing fully itemised quotes, with diagrams, and a copy of the guarantee, so we knew exactly what the cost would be. It was a lot less than we expected. I have no hesitation in recommending G M Windows.

A big thank you to George and his team for a fantastic service from start to finish.We replaced 2 large bays and 2 windows in the rustic profile and we are so happy with them. George was quick to respond to my enquiry and was able to pop round and provide a quote within a matter of days. He gave us an honest review on the type of door we wanted and his knowledge made us change our minds on what was best. The integral blinds are wonderful.He was happy to fit a new cat flap in the kitchen door and disposed of the old door and window at the end of the job. We are very happy with our new kitchen door and window.We asked George to provide us with a quote for bi-fold doors at the back of the house and will be asking him to do this job sometime in the future.

I had received quotes from a few different company’s, G M Windows & Doors Ltd was reasonably priced and they were by far the most professional and took their time to discuss through all the options explaining everything in detail. I decided to go ahead with G&M because of the professionalism they showed and from their 5 star reviews.Throughout placing the order and installation, there was good communication and updates sent on a regular basis and any questions I had were responded to promptly. (I had a lot of questions but was never made to feel like I was mithering them)I had new front and back doors and all my windows replaced. One window needed a new lintel, and this was all arranged by the company ( I had the option to use my own builder). I decided to use their associated builders. He also was very professional taking videos and photos of everything he had completed.The team were professional and arrived on time each day with a courtesy text before arrival.They worked hard to ensure everything was completed to a high standard.

A fantastic company! So pleased with the new windows, back door and composite front door which I have had fitted.From the first appointment George was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. His attention to detail was second to non.I needed so much advice and he had an endless amount patience answering all of my questions. From recommending the best window design most appropriate for the age of my terrace house right down to the finer detail of choosing a font displaying the house number in the double glazed fanlight above the front door!He has a great team. I contacted this company as I needed a composite front door, the gentleman, the owner, said he would WhatsApp me, which he did. I sent him everything he needed, address, door details etc and he sent a brochure via WhatsApp. A couple of days later he messaged asking if we had chosen a door, which we had, and he said he would give us a price in a couple of days, nearly two weeks later I'm still waiting. If he's not interested I would prefer him to tell me and not just leave me waiting. ????

Great fast service. Gave quote quickly , ordered and fitted within a few days even with Easter Bank Holiday being in the way. Cheaper than others I tried in the area and window looks great. They sent a text when they were on their way to save staying in all day, and were nice polite lads too. Would definitely recommend and will use again in the future ????

It was a very professional service, our fitters Ashley and Ben were the most polite fitters that I have ever come across. Both polite and extremely well mannered! Less fuss, less mess and a brilliant finish. After GM Windows and Doors completed a job next door we were so impressed by the quality of workmanship we decided to go straight to them and did not wish to go anywhere else! George and his team have been fantastic throughout, from quotation stage through to installation we have been kept fully informed of the process. The whole house has been transformed with new anthracite grey double glazed windows, new french doors and replacement composite front and back door. George took the time and effort to source a particular front door that was not normally part of his portfolio. The quality and price were fantastic and the installation team were all polite, friendly and showed attention to detail. The difference in warmth and noise reduction has been unbelievable. I would have no hesitation in recommending GM Windows and Doors to anyone. You won't be disappointed, we are over the moon. Thank you George and Team, a job well done.

I contacted George to replace all our UPVC windows because all of his Which! reviews were 5 stars. He accommodated us despite a very busy order book. At the survey, he and Ashley listened to our needs and provided helpful, friendly advice on the design and colour of the windows, specialist glass etc. They were never pushy. George advised us to get another quote to demonstrate how competitive his prices are. His quote was so competitive, we went for doors as well as windows. The work was undertaken over 3 full week days at scheduled times. The fitters, led by Ashley, were punctual, extremely conscientious and experts at installation. They were also decent, friendly lads, who kept us posted on progress. The finished job is remarkable - the house looks amazing and is much warmer and quieter. The attention to detail on the interior against tile and wall is excellent, George is a perfectionist. He also provided Building Regulations papers and an insurance policy unsolicited. We are delighted and neighbours have been complementary and asked for George's contact details. I would recommend G M Windows & Doors Ltd without hesitation and have complete confidence in this consummately professional business.

Update: had another window fitted by George’s team in July 21 and same excellent service. Thanks again GM Windows. I won’t be going anywhere else for my windows and doors in future!George and his team were professional and efficient from start to finish. I enquired about a replacement front room window and within a few days George had completed a quote and booked the production of the window on approval of the price quoted. He kept me up to date with the progress of the production and booked in the fitting as soon as it was ready to install. George and his apprentice did a brilliant job of fitting the window. They arrived promptly on site, ensured carpets were protected and cleaned up leaving an immaculate end result. I’ve already asked George to quote for more windows! Thank you guys.
